GRAND HOTEL ET DE MILAN

Grand Hotel Et De Milan

Ever since its inauguration way back in 1863, the Grand Hotel et de Milan has been the residence of personalities of national and international renown - Maria Callas, Rudolf Nureyev, Luchino Visconti, Ernest Hemingway, Gabriele D'Annunzio, Enrico Caruso and many others. We especially take pride in recalling the celebrated composer of operas, Giuseppe Verdi, who stayed at the hotel for several years. He composed some of his operas in the suite at present bearing his name. Its appeal of age-old milanese residences still draws the big names of show business to the hotel. The Grand Hotel et de Milan is right in the centre of the city, opposite via Montenapoleone - with its elegant boutiques, a short walk from la Scala and from the cathedral. Two years of thorough restructuring and of technological innovations have made the Grand Hotel et de Milan a perfect place for either business or pleasure, allowing guests to enjoy the age-old appeal of nineteenth-century noble residences.

The royal suite has been dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi who chose to be a guest of this hotel in 1872. The milanese public loved the maestro so much that on 5th february, 1887, after the premiere of 'Othello', the horses drawing the carriage bringing him back to the hotel from 'la Scala' were released from the carriage itself which was then drawn along by the crowd, in a frenzy because of the brilliant performance. The citizens laid 'loving' siege to the hotel, compelling the maestro to show himself at the balcony of his suite together with the tenor tamagno who sang a few of the opera's arias.
Several years later, when Giuseppe Verdi was on death's door, via Manzoni was covered with straw in order not to disturb the Maestro with the clatter of the carriages and horses. Giuseppe Verdi passed away on 27th january, 1901.
Ever since, the suite has maintained the furniture and the deco of the time, the appeal of the splendour of Verdi's time itself remaining unchanged.

The rooms and the suites, all different to one another, have period furniture which has been fondly restored. Each room or suite is characterised by a style of its own, at times nineteenth-century, at others art nouveau or art deco.
Flooring is in superior parquetry. The large bathrooms have been restructured with the use of the very best italian marble.
Precious fabrics, objets d'art and modern day comfort blend harmoniously in this sumptuous yet comfortable environment.

The Grand Hotel et de Milan is right in the centre of the city, opposite via Montenapoleone and close by to via della spiga, a short walk away from la Scala, the Cathedral and from where the financial area nestles.

Chauffeur driven cars to and from the airports and railway stations are available upon request.
